Purpose

The mission of Conservation Geography is to protect and restore wild places and wildlife by challenging the status quo with geographic and scientific analyses.

We are committed to ‘leveling the playing field’ by providing non-profit organizations with affordable access to the same information, technology, and analytical capability that has long been available to resource industries.

Using existing agency data to demonstrate the discrepancies that exist between science and policy is a powerful tool. It not only saves the costs associated with independent resource inventories, it also focuses the discussion on data interpretation and subsequent management actions, rather than ‘their data’ vs ‘our data’. The accusation that conservation groups use ‘advocacy science’ is eliminated.

Conservation Geography has successfully applied this strategy to a range of advocacy activities including litigation, grassroots organizing, and public participation.
